RO alumna wins conducting competition

Michal Oren, one of the first cohort of Royal College of Music conductors taking part in our workshops, in 2023, was announced as the winner of the 6^th Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in Birmingham on Sunday.

The competition took place over four days at Symphony Hall, in collaboration with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, with Michal Oren winning both the First Prize and the Orchestra’s Prize. The winner of the Orchestra’s Prize will be invited to perform with the CBSO in 2027/28. Huge congratulations, Michal!

Michal Oren will also compete in the 80^th Concours de Genève Conducting Competition semi-finals in November, and she features on Classic FM’s Rising Stars 2026 list.

Our next workshop for young conductors will take place on Sunday 11^th October at the Royal College of Music.
