Introducing Zihan Zhou

A headshot of Zihan Zhou, who is gazing steadily into the camera through his half-framed glasses. He is wearing a black formal jacket with a mandarin collar, a white shirt just visible underneath. The light is warm and the background has rich brown tones into which the outline of his short hair partly disappears.

Rehearsal Orchestra’s annual workshop for young conductors returns on Sunday 11 October at the Royal College of Music in London.

Now in its fourth year, the workshop expands the support we provide for future professionals in developing their skills. We’ll be joined by four conductors from the Royal College of Music’s postgraduate course in orchestral conducting, under the supervision of our Artistic Director Levon Parikian, to work on Prokofiev’s iconic Symphony No. 5.

Zihan Zhou is a conductor and composer, and a member of the Professional Conducting Committee of the Beijing Musicians Association. He has previously earned a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the University of South Dakota and a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Berklee College of Music.

Zihan has served as Music Director of the Berklee Motion Picture Orchestra, Guest Conductor of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, Principal Conductor of the Berklee Chinese Traditional Music Ensemble, Assistant Conductor of the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra, and Conductor of the Berklee Symphonic Winds Ensemble. He has also conducted orchestras including the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czech Republic, the Miami Music Festival Orchestra, and the Tokyo Sinfonia in Japan.

We look forward to working with you, Zihan!

The workshop includes an Open Rehearsal (at 17.45) to which observers are welcome. Please let us know in advance if you would like to attend.
