Introducing Wooju Baik

Rehearsal Orchestra’s annual workshop for young conductors returns on Sunday 11 October at the Royal College of Music in London.

Now in its fourth year, the workshop expands the support we provide for future professionals in developing their skills. We’ll be joined by four conductors from the Royal College of Music’s postgraduate course in orchestral conducting, under the supervision of our Artistic Director Levon Parikian, to work on Prokofiev’s iconic Symphony No. 5.

Korean conductor Wooju Baik is the winner of 1st Prize at the 8th Ionel Perlea International Conducting Competition, additionally receiving the Orchestra Prize and Special Awards from the State Philharmonia Brașov. He was also the inaugural winner of the Romania Conducting Competition. Following this success, he has been invited back each year to work with Michalis Economou as an official Assistant Conductor.

Wooju has appeared with orchestras across Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Korea and the UK. He has also participated in a collaborative project with the Royal Albert Hall and currently serves as Assistant Conductor of the London Orion Orchestra alongside Toby Purser. This is Wooju’s second workshop with the Rehearsal Orchestra.
