Introducing Maliq Veal

Rehearsal Orchestra’s annual workshop for young conductors returns on Sunday 11 October at the Royal College of Music in London.

Now in its fourth year, the workshop expands the support we provide for future professionals in developing their skills. We’ll be joined by four conductors from the Royal College of Music’s postgraduate course in orchestral conducting, under the supervision of our Artistic Director Levon Parikian, to work on Prokofiev’s iconic Symphony No. 5.

American conductor Maliq Veal’s work spans orchestral, wind, chamber and educational ensembles. He has developed his craft through conducting workshops, festivals and mentorship with distinguished conductors including John DeMain, Ken Kiesler and Edo de Waart. A recipient of the William Grant Still Initiative Award at The Conductor’s Retreat at Medomak, Maliq is committed to expressive, collaborative and communicative music-making. Beginning in the autumn of 2026, he will serve as a Resident Music Scholar for The Robert Anderson Trust.
