Introducing Yi-Chuan Chen

A sideways half-portrait of Yi-Chuan Chen. His left elbow rests on his thigh, and his chin on his hand, which holds the baton, downwards, in a casual grip. His face, hand and shirt front are lit by a light source from the right, in dramatic contrast to the shadow created elsewhere and dark grey background.

On Sunday 9 November Rehearsal Orchestra’s 2025/26 season will kick off in London with a workshop for young conductors.

Now in its third year, the workshop expands the support we provide for future professionals in developing their skills. We’ll be joined by four student conductors from the Royal College of Music’s postgraduate course in orchestral conducting, under the supervision of our Artistic Director Levon Parikian, to work on Shostakovich’s iconic Symphony No. 5.

Taiwanese conductor Yi-Chuan Chen originally trained as a Chinese bamboo flautist and later studied conducting with Professor Apo Ching-Hsin Hsu and holds degrees from National Taiwan Normal University. He served as Annual Contract Assistant Conductor of the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan from 2018 to 2020, after winning Second Prize in its 2016 Young Conductor Competition. He is now the co-founder and conductor of the Arteam Chinese Orchestra.

We look forward to working with you, Yi-Chuan!
