Born in Bury, Lancashire, Stephen studied conducting and French horn at the
Royal College of Music. In addition to holding the posts of Principal Horn
with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia and solo horn of the
Haffner Wind Ensemble, Stephen enjoys working as guest conductor with
orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle
Orchestra, Guildford Philharmonic, Ulster Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, BBC
Concert Orchestra (including his Royal Festival Hall debut in 2003),
Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, London Gala Orchestra, Manchester Concert
Orchestra and BBC Singers. He also holds the post of Artistic Director with
the Elgar Chamber Orchestra and it was with this Orchestra that he released
his first disc as a conductor for Sanctuary Classics. Following the recent
success of his first album with the RPO on the Dutton Epoch label, he has
just completed a further disc, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The
Joyful Company of Singers.
